GOOMERI, August 30 1937

Military Ball— The second annual military ball which was held in the Hall of Memory on Friday evening was easily the most outstanding and successful ball held in Goomeri for many years. The ball was conducted by the Goomeri Troop of the 5th Light Horse who also celebrated their recent success at the Brisbane Show. The door receipts amounted to over £50, and the hall was well packed with a happy crowd of dancers. A large number of visitors were present from as far as Gympie. Cooroy. Maryborough Kilkivan, Murgon, Wondai and Kingaroy. Visiting military officers who were present were Regimental Sergeant-Major Peters (Gympie. Captain Batts (Kilkivan) Lieut Melane (Murgon), and Sergeant Cant (Kingaroy). The grand march was led by Captain Batts and partner and Lieut. Anderson (Goomeri)and partner.  The march was a most imposing spectacle end several hundred couples participated.

Mr. Kerlin (Gympie) officiated as M.C. and the music was provided by an orchestra of six instruments led by Mrs. Bonney (Gympie). The hall decorations were most imposing. The main feature of the decorations were the 300 flags of all nations with which the hall was draped, whilst hundreds of balloons swayed gently to and fro in the nights breeze. The supper arrangements were supervised by Mrs.F. Schellbach.
