A Sad End

Thursday 12 October 1933

Newspapers The Courier-Mail Brisbane, Qld

Mr. James Grieve.

Another pioneer of the South Burnett, in the person of James Grieve, of Ettrickdale, Goomeri, died at his home on October 8. He attended the sports gathering at Booubyjan, at Which he was an official, on Saturday afternoon, and, when crossing a creek on his way home, the car stalled. Mr. Grieve, who was accompanied by Mrs. Grieve and their son, got out to crank the car, which, going forward suddenly, knocked and pinned him down. It was with difficulty that Mrs. Grieve managed to keep her husband's head above water whilst the son went for assistance. The injuries proved fatal. Mr. Grieve was held in high esteem among a wide circle of friends. Mr. Grieve's father held such properties as Boonimbah, Gowanlock, and Ettrickdale, and it is understood was the first man to import Hereford bulls direct from England for breeding purposes into the South Burnett.
